How Honen works with Totara Learn
Keep Totara Learn for courses and learner records. Build a course in Honen, then add its SCORM package as a Totara activity. Totara fully supports SCORM 1.2. Its SCORM 2004 support excludes Content Aggregation, Run-Time Environment, and Sequencing and Navigation extensions, so choose SCORM 1.2 unless your exact 2004 package passes a tenant test.
Add and test the course
Turn editing on in a Totara course. Select SCORM from Add an activity, upload the ZIP, set the SCORM and activity-completion options, and save. Totara requires the mod/scorm:addnewpackage capability for a user who uploads a new unknown package. If upload fails, check that permission with an administrator. Totara documents these steps.
Set the grade method, number of attempts, and launch window for your course. Totara recommends a new window for some launch setups. Review its activity settings, then test as a learner. Check completion, pass/fail, score, time, and resume.
Draft clear lessons with Honen
Use approved documents, slides, or video to draft lessons, checks, and a tutor experience. Review every fact, warning, and answer. Write short, active sentences with one action per step and consistent terms. Honen can help draft and review controlled language. A qualified editor must check the approved dictionary, ASD-STE100 rules, and domain terms.
Update and report
Honen's thin SCORM package loads current approved content on a new launch. Test the hosted launch in your Totara site before relying on no-reupload updates. SCORM reports through the open browser session; it does not send server-to-server grades after exit. Use Totara for assignment and grade records and Honen for course-level progress and topic mastery.
Common questions
Which SCORM version should I export?
Start with SCORM 1.2. Totara's SCORM 2004 support has documented limits; test a 2004 package before release.
Why can I not upload a new package?
The user may lack mod/scorm:addnewpackage. Ask an administrator to check the role.
Can the tutor run inside Totara?
The Honen tutor runs in the launched Honen course. Test the launch window and sign-in experience in your site.
Do live edits change completed records?
No. A new launch can load current content; it does not rewrite historical Totara results.
Does Honen certify ASD-STE100 text?
No. A qualified editor must check the controlled-language rules and domain terms.
