Honen, Articulate, and iSpring for Totara Learn

The first authoring decision for Totara Learn is the SCORM export. Totara fully supports 1.2 and limits parts of 2004. Compare the tools after that format choice. See Honen with Totara Learn for the course path.

Choose Articulate Storyline for complex branching and visual interactions. Choose iSpring for slide fidelity and simulation tools. iSpring describes those tools. Choose Honen for source-based drafting and its course tutor. Articulate also offers connected Rise packages; live updates are not unique to Honen.

Use one pilot task for the comparison. For example, ask each tool to teach a three-step equipment check. Give each team the same approved procedure and images. Review the warning text, practice feedback, and time needed to correct one step. Then export each course as SCORM 1.2 and test it in the same Totara activity settings.

Totara's SCORM 2004 exceptions make version testing important. In its activity, check grading method, attempts, launch window, and completion. A thin package needs a hosted-launch test. SCORM reports through the open browser session.

Review every instruction and answer. Use short, active steps and consistent terms. Honen can help draft and review controlled language; a qualified editor must check the approved dictionary, ASD-STE100 rules, and domain terms.
