Honen vs Articulate 360
Honen and Articulate 360 can both produce courses for an existing LMS. Choose Honen when your workflow centers on generating a full course from source material, tutoring inside the course, and reviewing learning data. Choose Articulate when your team needs the detailed visual control of Storyline or the familiar block editor in Rise. Test both with the same source files and LMS. Find your LMS path.
Compare the work you do each week

| Task | Honen | Articulate 360 |
|---|---|---|
| Start from source files | Draft lessons, checks, and course structure with AI | Rise AI Assistant and Storyline tools support assisted authoring |
| Build visual interactions | Honen course activities and tutor | Storyline gives authors fine control over interaction design |
| Deliver to an LMS | Live SCORM or cmi5 package; LTI where supported | Rise exports SCORM, cmi5, and xAPI |
| Update a deployed course | Current Honen content loads on the next launch | Connected Packages in Labs update Rise SCORM 1.2 and 2004 packages |
| Help during learning | Honen tutor runs in the course | Test the learner support workflow you want in Articulate |
Articulate's Connected Packages are real. They are in Labs as of this review. Do not assume Articulate requires a new ZIP for every edit. Its standard fixed exports and its Connected Packages follow different update paths. Read what a live SCORM package is.
Where Articulate can fit better
Use Storyline when an expert needs detailed slide timing, custom variables, or finely designed simulations. Use Rise when the team already has a review and publishing process there. These are practical reasons to keep Articulate. Honen can fit when the team needs to build and revise many courses from changing documents, or wants tutor support inside the deployed course.
Compare a real delivery test
Build one short course in each tool. Import each package into the same LMS test space. Complete and fail a check. Leave and resume. Edit a lesson. Then compare the content update, learner view, and LMS record.
SCORM status and score move while the course is open. The delivery path guide can help if your LMS also supports cmi5 or LTI.
Review controlled-language content
Honen can draft short, direct instructions. Articulate can host text that your team has already approved. For ASD-STE100 work, a qualified editor must check the dictionary, writing rules, and technical terms. The ASD maintenance group provides the official standard. Neither tool makes an unreviewed AI draft compliant.
