AI course creator for Canvas LMS

Create a reviewed course in Honen, then select it inside Canvas through LTI 1.3. Honen works with Canvas through an external-tool launch, so instructors can keep their Canvas course structure and gradebook.

Start from a learning action

Write one result the learner must show. For example: “Identify the three controls that protect a research participant's data.” Add the current policy, approved slide deck, or syllabus to Honen. Remove old source versions before you ask for a draft.

Honen can turn source material into a course outline, lessons, and practice activities. The AI tutor can help learners with questions about that course. A subject expert must check facts, answer keys, and examples before publication.

Review the draft

  1. Check each lesson against the approved source.
  2. Remove facts that the source does not support.
  3. Give each activity one clear goal.
  4. Test the course and tutor as a learner.
  5. Publish the reviewed course in Honen.

Use controlled-language practices throughout: one term for one item, active voice, and one action per instruction. Honen can help draft and review that style. ASD-STE100 conformity requires a qualified editor to check its approved dictionary, rules, and domain terms.

Add the course to Canvas

Have an administrator register Honen as an LTI 1.3 tool. Canvas documents dynamic registration and manual developer-key setup. With the correct placement, Deep Linking lets an instructor select a resource for a module or assignment.

For a graded assignment, ask the administrator to grant the required AGS scopes. Canvas documents its LTI 1.3 grade services. Honen can post completion or pass/fail to a connected line item server to server. Test the Canvas gradebook result. Do not use Honen's per-course test-grade policy as a detailed score path; it is not wired to a course test grade.

What the learner sees

The learner opens the assignment or module in Canvas. The Honen course runs from the LTI launch, with lessons, activities, and its AI tutor. No separate Honen sign-in is part of the verified launch. Test the embedded view in the browsers your learners use.
