How Honen works with Sakai

Keep Sakai for the course site and learner records. Build the course in Honen, then ask a Sakai administrator to register an LTI 1.3 tool and place its launch in the site. Talk with Honen about the Sakai setup.

Use an administrator-managed LTI tool

Sakai's External Tools documentation lists LTI 1.3 and LTI Advantage. A functional administrator can make a tool available in one site or across sites and choose a Lessons, Assignments, editor, or Tool Menu placement. Sakai says that LTI 1.3 tools should be configured by a system administrator; the site-level key and secret form describes LTI 1.1.

Honen can provision a learner from a verified LTI 1.3 launch and map a Sakai site context to a Honen group. Grade return, roster access, and Deep Linking depend on the services and placements enabled for that tool. Test them in your site before release.

Build and review in Honen

Add approved source documents, slides, and other material. Draft lessons, practice, and checks. Confirm every fact and answer. Honen can help draft and review controlled-language content inspired by ASD-STE100. A qualified editor must check the approved dictionary, rules, and domain terms.

Check the SCORM edition before an upload

Sakai 25's SCORM Player is disabled by default and supports only SCORM 2004 3rd Edition. Honen currently exports SCORM 1.2 and 2004 4th Edition. Do not assume those ZIP files work in this player. Use LTI 1.3 for the documented path until a Sakai administrator validates a compatible SCORM solution in the local installation.

Tutor and results

The Honen tutor runs in the launched course. Test an actual learner launch in Sakai, including any iframe or new-window setting. With compatible Assignment and Grade Services, Honen can post completion or pass/fail to a line item. Its progress percentage is coarse, and its test-grade setting has no per-course score wired. Sakai's site records and Honen's course progress view serve different review needs.

Can instructors register Honen with the Sakai site-level key and secret form?

That form is for LTI 1.1. Sakai advises system administrator configuration for LTI 1.3 tools.

Can I upload Honen's current SCORM ZIP to Sakai 25?

The documented player accepts only SCORM 2004 3rd Edition. Honen's current SCORM exports do not match that edition. Verify another player or use LTI 1.3.

Can an LTI result enter Sakai Gradebook?

Only if the Sakai tool configuration and placement allow grades and a compatible line item exists. Test completion or pass/fail with a learner account.

Where can learners open the Honen course in Sakai?

An administrator can configure a Lessons, Assignments, editor, or Tool Menu placement. Test the selected placement with a learner account.
