Set up the Honen Google Classroom add-on

Check your Google Workspace edition, install the Honen Classroom add-on, then attach a test course in Classroom. Honen works with Google Classroom through a native add-on. Do not configure it as an LTI tool or upload a SCORM package.

Google says add-ons require Education Plus or the Teaching and Learning upgrade. An administrator can install for a domain, group, or organizational unit. A teacher can install individually only if the administrator allows it. Google says teachers create and assign add-on attachments on the Classroom website. Learners can use them on the web or mobile.

If Honen does not appear under Add-ons, ask your administrator to check the edition, installation, allowlist, and app access controls. Do this before you change the course itself.

Install Honen

  1. In Honen, open the organization's LMS integration settings and choose Google Classroom.
  2. Use Install add-on to open the Honen Marketplace listing, as described in Honen's setup guide.
  3. Have a Google Workspace administrator install Honen for the intended audience, or allow individual teacher installation.
  4. Review the permissions and complete Google's authorization flow.
  5. Ask one teacher in that audience to confirm Honen appears in Classroom Add-ons.

Google's administrator guide explains installation and allowlisting. The add-on listing guide explains that an add-on must be installed before a teacher can select it.

Attach a test course

  1. Publish a reviewed course in Honen.
  2. In the Classroom website, open a test class and create an assignment.
  3. Select Honen under Add-ons.
  4. Choose the Honen course or a supported graded activity.
  5. Set the assignment points and due date as needed.
  6. Assign it to a test learner.
  7. Open the attachment as that learner.

These Classroom actions follow Google's teacher guide and Honen's product guide. Sign in with the intended account when prompted.

Check a draft grade

For grade passback, use a supported activity attachment and a positive point value. Have the test learner complete the activity. Then inspect the draft points in Classroom. Google says only one grade-sync add-on attachment controls an assignment grade. The teacher reviews and publishes the draft grade. An ungraded material or announcement does not produce this result.

If the teacher copies an assignment, test the copied attachment in the destination class. Confirm that the correct course opens and a new learner submission maps to the copy.

Review the writing and rollout

Use one term for one item. Write short sentences in active voice and one action per step. Honen can help draft and review this controlled-language style. A qualified editor must check ASD-STE100 rules, the approved dictionary, and domain terms. Add-on installation does not establish language conformity.

Return to Honen with Google Classroom for the overview. If you need another LMS path, use the integration chooser.
