NFPA 99 (2024): Medical Gas Systems — ASSE 6010 & 6040 Exam Prep

This course breaks down the 2024 NFPA 99 code to help you pass the ASSE 6010 and 6040 exams. You will learn to build, test, and maintain medical gas systems that meet modern safety standards.

About this course

Most people look at the NFPA 99 code as a thick book of arbitrary rules. They see it as a hurdle to clear for a certification. That view makes the material hard to remember because it lacks a logic. This course changes the frame. We start with the risk to the patient. Once you see why a Category 1 system requires different safeguards than a Category 3 system, the rules for piping, valves, and alarms become a logical response to a specific danger. We walk through the mechanics of central supply systems, including medical air and vacuum sources. You will learn how to build the distribution network using the correct joining methods and materials. We also cover the specific testing sequences that prove a system is safe before a single patient uses it. This includes the difference between what an installer must test and what an independent verifier must confirm. You will finish this course ready for the ASSE 6010 or 6040 exams. You will know how to manage a permit to work system and lead a maintenance program as a Responsible Facility Authority. The goal is to move past memorizing table numbers and start understanding how these systems actually function.
