CloudFS Data Flow 2.0
A technical deep dive into how Panzura CloudFS moves data from a user's write request all the way to encrypted cloud storage and back to every node in the ring.
About this course
Most people who work with distributed file systems know the basic idea: data lives somewhere central, nodes cache it locally, everything stays in sync. What they often don't know is what actually happens in the milliseconds between a user hitting save and a file appearing on a node in another office. That gap between 'it works' and 'here's why it works' is what this course closes.
You'll start with the CloudFS node itself: what it is, how it presents a global namespace to SMB and NFS clients, and the five performance techniques that shape every data operation. From there you'll trace a write request step by step through the User-to-Node flow: how a file gets split into 128 KB blocks, compressed in memory, deduplicated using fingerprints, and committed before the client gets an acknowledgment. Then you'll follow those blocks from dirty cache into encrypted drive files, through TLS to cloud object storage, and back out through metadata-first snapshots that keep every node in the ring current.
By the end you'll be able to draw the full data path from client write to cloud storage and explain the purpose of each step. That kind of end-to-end picture is what separates someone who can operate CloudFS from someone who can troubleshoot it, size it, and explain its behavior to others.
Details
Skills you'll learn
CloudFS Architecture
Explain how a CloudFS node bridges local SMB/NFS clients to cloud object storage using a global namespace.
Block-Level Data Flow
Trace a file write through splitting, in-line compression, and deduplication to explain why clients can acknowledge writes quickly.
Cloud Storage Mechanics
Describe how net-new blocks are packed into drive files, encrypted with AES-256-CBC, and verified after upload.
Snapshot and Replication
Explain how metadata-first snapshots propagate changes across all nodes in the ring without requiring a full data sync.
Performance Optimization Analysis
Identify how compression ratios and deduplication rates directly affect write throughput at the node level.
